The four-hour Saturday morning training program will take place during the school year. The program contains four modules:
- Health and Wellness Awareness
Each module will be presented during class time. Lunch and snacks will be provided. When needed, care packages will be sent home with the students. Each week, some meaningful gift will be provided for each student, depending on the contribution of our donors. Field trips will be planned to expose students to STEM-related businesses. Transportation will be provided through the use of donated vehicles. Chaperones, teachers and parents will accompany the students. Background checks and fingerprinting is required of YEDF volunteers and staff who work with the youth we serve.
YEDF intends to deliver excellent training – initially on Saturday morning – and outreaches for the youth and advocacy training for their parents. YOU are needed to serve as volunteer teachers, chaperones, guest speakers, donors and to share the skills and experiences you have with the youth and their parents. We seek at least 10 volunteers in each the DMV area – ten in Maryland (5 each in Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties); ten in the District of Columbia and 10 in Northern Virginia.
