Volunteerism is the willingness of people to work on behalf of others without the expectation of pay or other tangible gains.

The Serve America Act (S.3487), outlines several important initiatives to support and strengthen nonprofits in their efforts to tackle America’s challenges — particularly in areas of education, environment, health, and disaster relief.

My name is Charlotte Chinn; I first became aware of AYO through Dr. Walker from the Wesley Center in 2005. After he explained what the program was about I knew that my son William needed to be involved. The program helped William to speak up and work on developing leadership skills. It was a great experience for him to go to the Black Enterprise Conference with the other students to see other positive African-American males. I became involved in AYO as a volunteer team leader because I enjoy working with youth. I enjoy seeing how talented the students are once they start working on their project. I feel the program is important to help young people especially young men learn the importance of picking role models and developing leadership roles.
